ART Retreat Information


Prices include Studio Space, All Materials (except oil and Canvas), Breakfast, Fruits and juices. Last day farewell dinner, Art instruction, Visit to Museums and Galleries.

We offer limited accommodation in the private residency for 8 days, 7 nights: Double bedroom with own bathroom $1.500, accommodates 2 people Double bedroom shared bathroom $1.225, accommodates 2 people.
Single room bunk bed shared bathroom $700, accommodates 2 people.


Day 1

  • Arrive at the retreat center and get settled in

  • Welcome and introduction to the retreat and its schedule

  • Tour of the studio and art supplies

  • Briefing on the techniques that will be taught during the retreat

  • Exploration of Mahon, Beaches, and tour of the island

Day 2-7

  • 5-hour studio session (including a break) in the morning or afternoon

  • Lunch break

  • Afternoon session exploring art centers and local galleries, or/and beaches

  • Dinner

Day 8

  • Final studio session to finish up any unfinished pieces

  • Exhibition of artwork created during the retreat

  • Farewell dinner and celebration

During the studio sessions, the instructor will cover a variety of painting and drawing techniques such as color theory, composition, brushwork, perspective, and more. The afternoon explorations of art centers and galleries would allow for exposure to a variety of art styles and mediums, inspiring the participants' own artwork.

 

 

Day 2 - Color Theory

The first studio session covers the fundamentals of color theory, including color schemes, mixing colors, and color harmonies. The instructor could demonstrate these concepts through a series of exercises. Participants would then have the opportunity to apply what they learned by creating their own painting using these techniques.

Day 3 - Composition

The second studio session focus on composition, covering topics such as balance, contrast, and focal points. The instructor could guide participants through exercises designed to help them understand how to arrange elements within a painting to create a visually appealing composition. Participants could then create their own painting applying these principles.

Day 4 - Subject Matter

The third studio session will center on choosing and developing subject matter. The instructor will cover how to find inspiration and how to develop a concept into a strong visual idea. Participants could then use these techniques to create their own painting.

Day 5 - Style

The fourth studio session will be devoted to exploring different art styles and techniques, such as abstraction, realism, impressionism, or expressionism, minimalism. Participants could then experiment with different styles to find their own unique voice.

Day 6 - Art World

The fifth studio session could be a lecture or discussion led by a guest speaker or art critic, offering participants insight into the art world. The guest will discuss topics such as art history, contemporary art, art criticism, or art market. Participants could then ask questions and engage in a dialogue about the art world. We will continue working on our individual projects.

Day 7 - Different Techniques

The sixth studio session could be a more technical session where participants will practice and implement all the different techniques and teachings from previous sessions.

Day 8 - Art Work And Exhibition

Finishing Art work and Exhibition.

 

 

Throughout the retreat, the instructor will provide individual feedback and guidance to each participant, helping them develop their skills and artistic vision.

Activities to Engage in on the Island

  • Visit the Ciutadella, the old capital of Menorca, and its historic port.

  • Explore the Parque Natural S'Albufera des Grau, a nature reserve with a diverse range of bird species.

  • Take a boat tour of the island's coastline to see its coves and cliffs.

  • Visit the Monte Toro, the highest point on the island, offering stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

  • Enjoy a local Menorcan cuisine at one of the island's restaurants or food markets.

Most Beautiful Beaches in Menorca

  • Cala Macarella and Cala Macarelleta, located on the south coast of the island, with crystal-clear waters and fine white sand.

  • Cala Pregonda, located on the north coast of the island, with red sand and clear waters, surrounded by stunning cliffs.

  • Cala Mitjana and Cala Mitjaneta, located on the south coast of the island, with turquoise waters and white sand.

  • Cala Galdana, located on the south coast of the island, with a wide sandy beach and shallow waters.

Concerts and Cultural Events during July and August

  • Festes de Sant Joan, held annually on June 23 and 24, featuring traditional Menorcan music and dance, as well as fireworks and bonfires.

  • Festival Internacional de Música de la Mediterrània, held in Mahon in July and August, featuring concerts and performances by musicians from around the Mediterranean region.

  • Fiestas de Gracia, held annually in August, featuring parades, concerts, and street performances in the town of Gracia.

  • Jazz Obert, held in Mahon in August, featuring jazz concerts and performances by local and international artists.

Overall, Menorca offers a wealth of activities, art galleries, and cultural events that will complement the art retreat and provide participants with an opportunity to explore and enjoy the island.

Hauser and Wirth is a prominent international art gallery that opened a location in Menorca in July 2021, in the historic town of Mahon. The gallery occupies a former 18th-century naval hospital and has a large outdoor space for exhibitions and events. Hauser and Wirth Menorca features contemporary art exhibitions by both established and emerging artists, as well as public programs, talks, and events.

In addition to Hauser and Wirth, there are several other important galleries in Mahon that have opened in recent years, including Galleries like "Cayon Gallery," "Kroma," or "Argos" in Menorca.

  • Addaya Centre d'Art Contemporani: Located in Alaior, this contemporary art gallery features works by both local and international artists.

  • Sa Nostra Sala: Located in Mahon, this art space features rotating exhibitions of contemporary art and cultural events.

  • Ca'n Oliver Art Gallery: Located in Ciutadella, this gallery features a mix of contemporary and traditional art by emerging and established artists.

Other activities that students could engage in during their art retreat in Menorca. Here are some examples:

  • Horseback riding: Menorca has several equestrian centers that offer horseback riding excursions through the island's beautiful countryside and along its beaches.

  • Kayaking and paddle boarding: Menorca's crystal-clear waters and beautiful coastline make it an ideal destination for kayaking and paddle boarding. There are several companies that offer guided tours and equipment rental.

  • Diving and snorkeling: Menorca's waters are home to a variety of marine life and shipwrecks, making it a popular destination for diving and snorkeling. There are several diving centers on the island that offer courses, guided dives, and equipment rental.

  • Hiking and biking: Menorca has several scenic hiking and biking trails that allow visitors to explore the island's natural beauty. The Camí de Cavalls, a historic trail that encircles the island, is a popular route for both hiking and biking.

Students could also explore the island's cultural heritage by visiting historic sites like the Naveta des Tudons and the Talayotic settlement of Torre d'en Galmés, or attend local festivals and events, such as the Sant Joan Festival or the Festa de Sant Jaume.
